But but but it's a mild steel core, doesn't the robot armor defeat M855? So paranoid right now. Not even blue text. Crap. I don't have any real-world experience, but I'm a genius on the internet, so that'll work, right? Anyway, it'd still probably do better than your silly rounds designed to eff up meatbags.

We've got a few that I'm not stocking heavily. 7.62x54R, and .30 carbine--well, the carbine is my wife's, and she does have a decent little stack that she hasn't shot in years ( ), but the Mosins...yeah. Wife has pretty much claimed them so I can't just dump them, but I'm not really stockpiling the ammo, either. Down to 14 calibers right now after selling those 5 rifles/getting out of those 3 calibers. That's still quite a bit to stock for, but the big ones there are .22LR, 9mm, .45 ACP, .223 Rem, x39 and 12 Ga. birdshot. .30 carbine is a fun caliber. Miss the very first M1 carbine I ever owned (Winchester from WWII), stupidly sold it when I was in my early 20-something's and the others since then weren't original and didn't really scratch that itch right. Been thinking of getting an original here and there, would have to add that caliber though and except for that Ruger single action and those horrible AMT semi's the .30 carbine doesn't go in anything else. Definitely fun though. Only other caliber I'm really seriously thinking of adding besides the .30 carbine is a .44 Mag and getting a revolver and lever action. Occasionally feel like getting another 30-30, but I don't know if it's enough of an urge to actually go buy one. We're too into shooting clays for that to happen. Gone dove hunting quite a bit, but it's more like go a whole bunch of times in one year and then skip it for two kind of thing.

VZ-58 is intriguing. It's not that I don't like the AK, I do--but I sold the first one to buy the wife's M1 Carbine. Sold the second one to fund an Aimpoint for the AR and picked up the 30-30 (an older Marlin 336--I think it was made around '79 or '80; no stupid safety).
I think the biggest thing keeping me from getting back into the 7.62x39 game is .300 blackout. Soviet is cheaper (for now, at least), but why bother? Blackout is mo' better. Russian .223 isn't quite as cheap as x39, but the difference is small enough that it would take quite a bit of ammo to pay back the investment. That, and a decent AK isn't much cheaper (if at all) than throwing together a basic AR at this point.
Ooh, an AK chambered in .300 blackout might be an interesting toy. Eh, 6.8 would probably be even better.
Dang it. Off to look that up.
Edit: On second thought, seems almost counterproductive. And more expensive. As a thought exercise it is okay, I guess.

I've only shot M855 at car doors, plate steel and engine blocks. It zipped through the car doors but so did M193, it busted engine blocks but so did M193 and it dimpled plate steel but so did M193. Really, robots have us. We're screwed. SCREWED. Damn it, got rid of kings, now I'll be a serf to a computer. What's new on Facebook.....

So, actor Will Smith was out at Taran Butler's shooting range in California, getting some shootin' trainin'. He's supposed to be playing the comic book character "Deadshot" in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. www.facebook.com/video.php?v=847942055255553I follow a couple of Taran Tactical's sponsored shooters on twitter, and they're always posting pictures of the Hollywood-types who go there to get live-fire #PewPewPew training for some movie they're gonna be in. My question is, since 1989 it has been illegal to "import, sell, give, trade, or lend a detatchable extendos that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition" in the state of California.....so how are those competition-types able to have all their new "regular" capacity Pmags and Glock mags and such?

www.ballistics101.com/7.62x39.phpIn terms of availability and cost it's beating it out by a lot. ammoseek.com/ammo/300aac-blackout
ammoseek.com/ammo/7.62x39mmFor those guys who probably won't ever get a suppressor or an SBR the x39's still looking alright. Depends what you're doing with it and how much money you have for everything I guess.

Depends what you're doing with it and how much money you have for everything I guess. What B35 said. I know I looked hard into it more than a few times, and in the end for guy that won't be buying a stamp either way, the x39's just a more cost effective option all the way around. Anytime the Ruski's wanna spit out a VZ/short recoil op AK in 6.5Gren I'm in. I've often wondered why they didn't jump on the 6.5G, it was designed on their case - why did the 5.45 seem like a better idea? EDIT - Oh, and that 200gr XTP for 10mm is just a barrel of fun. Love, love, LOVE that bullet in an MMP sabot out of my old 45cal inline. That was a true 200yrd muzzy with that and B209 powder. I've heard guys going even farther with NULA rifles and the old Savage smokeless. It'll drop a deer fine. Never shot it out of a handgun, though.

XTP is extremely accurate in my experience..my .38 loads with 125gr XTPs make me look like a bullseye shooter.
So I just bought a 1/2" AR500 8" plate target. Pretty excited as I love shooting steel. Anybody know how close I can be with a .223? I know we shot plates like this in my course last week and I don't see how they could've been more than 1/2" thick. We were about 12-15m out.

Well, better in terms of running it in an AR--cause I already haz one, better in terms of maybe I'll get a can someday, and close enough ballistically that other than cheaper boolitz, it doesn't offer me a whole lot of advantages. Except for AKs being fun and stuff.
